CAR SERVICES TO THE MOUNTAINS ARE SUPERIOR

WHY NOT TO RENT A CAR

  • You end up paying for a car you didn't use! I am often told a rental car was barely used - if at all - while in Vail / Beaver Creek as most hotels / condos are within walking distance to mountain or there are shuttles to the mountain.

  • Paying to park a car you aren't using (overnight hotel valet fee is $50 - $100 each night)!

  • It takes about an hour before you can get on the road as you take a bus to the car rental facility in Denver then wait in line to rent the car! With Vail 70 we will be on the road within five minutes of getting your bags.

“Well what if we need a car so we can go buy groceries?” I’d be happy to stop at Costco, City Market, Safeway, Walgreens, or even a dispensary on the way to your lodgings… Imagine the convenience of arriving at your destination without needing to go anywhere for anything but just beginning your vacation?

Even if a car service costs a little more isn’t the peace of mind of leaving the mountain driving to an experienced professional worth it? Didn’t you go on vacation for rest and relaxation? Or did you want to drive in the snow over two mountain passes?!? Even if you rent a 4 x 4 rental car companies are notorious for having vehicles with bad tread on their tires. What if you get stuck? What if you get in a collision? Or you can enjoy the view looking out the windows of my Escalade... Take a nap or get some work done and leave the driving to me.

WHY NOT TO TAKE THE SHUTTLE

I don’t wanna be too critical of the shuttles because that is how I got my start in this industry. And overall they do a good job of "what they do." But a car service is a far better experience and can actually be a better value as my rate is a flat fee regardless of how many passengers. So if there are four or more people in your party I will actually be less than a shuttle as they charge per person. And in peak season it is not uncommon for the fare to be more than $100 per person (sometimes up to $150). Other things to take into consideration when taking shuttles:

  • You have to travel during their operating hours (they might not have service for when your flight arrives or departs). You also have to wait for your shuttle's departure time whereas we hit the road within five minutes of you getting your bags. And for the return trip back to the airport you decide what time we leave (the shuttle services usually build in a lot of unnecessary extra time since they are responsible for multiple parties making their flights).

  • I drive with the flow of traffic, the shuttles are usually in the “slow lane” the whole time.

  • Pickups and dropoffs add 20 - 40 minutes which means a typical two hour drive from Denver turns into three to four hours on the shuttle.

  • Cramped seating arrangements (sitting next to strangers) whereas you have an Escalade just for your family and friends.

  • Little things like not being able to control the temperature or not having heated seats. Oftentimes the shuttles place your ski bag on the back of the vehicle leaving you with a dirty bag.
