Vail 70 Limo / Vail Personal Driver
A lot of companies don’t write much on their website about themselves or their story. I’m not sure why but hopefully you will find some or all of the following intriguing and we can develop a relationship as the company you choose when you come to the mountains of Colorado.
Born in 1980 in Salt Lake. K-12 in suburbs of Seattle. Lived in Colorado since Y2K (Colorado Springs - Ken Caryl Valley - Arvada - Westminster - Downtown Denver - Vail). Broadcast journalism graduate. Also wanted to be a police officer. Have lived in Vail since winter 2013 - 2014.
Being a driver has been my primary occupation since winter 2015 - 2016 when I started driving with Colorado / Epic Mountain Express until the opportunity came to buy my Escalade. That in itself is a great story as the genesis for starting Vail 70 began by driving some families I knew from playing pickleball in their vehicle. Well, one of those clients then offered to sell that vehicle to me so how could I say no? And thus Vail 70 began.
What really keeps me working in mountain hospitality is I enjoy the “work hard - play hard philosophy” that us locals have to live by. Don’t get me wrong as a lot of people say they work hard and play hard but those that work hospitality in resort communities truly embrace it as during peak season we work much more than 40 hours a week - including nights, weekends and holidays - from December to April and June to October. And then during the off season we rest and play. This lifestyle was tailormade for me as one of my favorite things to do is hit the open road on my motorcycle for days or weeks at a time exploring with my Corgi Morrie!
I have been driving the mountains of Colorado since I moved here in the late 90's so I have immeasurable experience driving Interstate 70 - which is actually why I named my company Vail 70 - as you take I70 the whole way to Vail. So you can truly sit back and relax when riding with me as I am an experienced mountain driver.
Of all the hospitality jobs I’ve had (waiting tables / bartending / bellman) driving is far and away what I have enjoyed the most as I like getting “out and about." I’m often asked how I feel about driving in the snow and the honest answer is I enjoy the challenge. There’s a few tips I adhere to and they’ve never let me down as I’ve never gotten stuck or needed chains. I also consistently get complimented on my safe and smooth driving.
Vail has been my home since winter 2013 - 2014. I came here thinking I would spend one winter to get skiing and snowboarding “out of my system” as I was planning to move to someplace warm (Phoenix - Las Vegas - San Diego) to pursue being a police officer or work in television news from which I graduated (https://youtu.be/ERjDjxaNJBY?si=eD-Tfl4ZHwSn-n5d&t=6). I deliberately left after my first winter so I wouldn’t get “stuck here” like I had heard so many people end up doing. I spent summer 2014 being a bellman in Teton National Park (adjacent to Yellowstone) being a bellman at the historic Jackson Lake Lodge.
From there I went to Naples (Florida) in which I accomplished my goal / dream of living somewhere warm. But guess what happened? I was there for not even one month when I saw people posting pictures of snow on the mountains which made a grown man feel homesick. I thought that feeling would last for just that day but it continued for the next week… I guess I just didn’t feel at home in the sun and sand of the Florida coast so I decided if I could find a place to live so late in the season I would return (as housing is very hard for locals to find). I was able to find a bedroom to rent in a condo, that was my second of four times having a private landlord (hopefully never again)! I now live in a studio with "million dollar views" views of Vail and Beaver Creek and one bus stop away from the village.
